Michael Larson-Edwards, FAME Alumnus '04

Michael began as a FAME Scholar in ninth grade and attended Winchester Thurston School. While at Winchester, Michael was a member of the Black Student Union, the golf team and the basketball team. After graduating in 2004 and winning the inaugural Sigma Pi Phi fraternity scholarship through the NEED program, Michael continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. While at the University of Pittsburgh, he got the opportunity to study abroad in Brazil and China, enhancing his love of traveling while helping him gain an education to prepare him for his career. Michael currently works as a project engineer for Massaro Corporation in Pittsburgh. In addition to his work at Massaro Corporation, Michael is currently working on founding a mentoring program with local high school students.

What does Michael have to say about his experience with FAME

I owe many thanks to everyone associated with the FAME organization because I truly believe that they were a crucial part in molding me into the person I have become. With their assistance and that of many mentors along the way?I have realized the importance of organizations such as FAME and hope that I am able to impact the lives of future generations the same way FAME impacted me.


Ngani Ndimbie, FAME Alumnus '05

Ngani began as a FAME Scholar in 6th grade and attended The Ellis School. In high school, Ngani was co-president of the Tutoring Club and Photography Editor of the Yearbook. She also played on the Ellis lacrosse team and performed in musicals, plays, and Cabarets. After graduation, Ngani attended the University of Florida where she studied Political Science and Visual Arts. She was secretary of the College of Fine Arts Council, a member of the Gator Chapter of the NAACP, and President of Change the World: UF Student Social Entrepreneurs.  After graduation, Ngani worked for the Regional Equity Monitoring Project and the League of Young Voters. She is now back in Pittsburgh working as a Community Organizer for the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania.

What does Ngani have to say about her experience with FAME?

Being a FAME Scholar was a fantastic opportunity. I look back at my time at Ellis as a period of academic rigor and great personal growth.
