Darlene Motley, Ph.D.
Dr. Darlene Motley is the Department Head of Management and director and co-developer of the Master's of Science in Human Resource Management program at Robert Morris University, located in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Motley has served in academic and corporate settings both internationally and domestically. Professor Motley's academic interests include the study of multicultural diversity, trust, ethical behavior and sustainability. Her research and publications also include the impact of current issues such as technology and multiple generations in the workplace on cross-cultural and human resources for corporate and nonprofit organizations.
She serves on the University Sustainability Committee and co-chairs the Education Sub-committee. She is Interest Group Leader of the Hiring and Employment Committee for the Council on Institutional Equity and heads the Business School Ethics Committee as well as the School of Business Sustainability Committee. She is an advisor to the student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management and a thesis advisor to both undergraduate and graduate students in business and non-profit management.
Dr. Motley is actively involved in the Academy of Management, Society for Human Resource Management, and AACSB. She is a past president of the Management Faculty of Color Association.
She has been recognized as a distinguished alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh and is a member of honorary societies, Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Pi Mu.
Dr. Motley also does independent consulting on strategic human resource and organizational behavior issues for corporate, public, and non-profit businesses as well as the public sector. She sits on the board of the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and also the Fund for Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME).
Her husband and she run the volunteer Inner City Junior Tennis Program of Pittsburgh and she serves as the treasurer for the Pittsburgh Chapter of Jack and Jill of America.
Dr. Motley received her Ph.D. in Business from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
